There were a lot of areas where I agreed with Kohn and disagreed with the theory. I love the idea of creating a postivie, classroom evironment but this ideal almost seems impossible. I believe that students shoudl be given chances to be responsible for their actions but at the same time, they are jsut children. They are going to make mistakes and often at this time in their life need more guidance than jsut letting them be. I could picture this discipline plan going very wrong in an elementary classroom.
Kohn believes in basically getting rid of discipline procedures and while I would never want my classroom to be focused on negative discipline actions, I do think it is important to recognize a students' bad behavior and have consequences. I just believe that this ideal is almost too "adult-like" for a child at this age.
While there are many thing about this discipline plan I would not want to include in my classroom, I do agree with him on the importance of creating a classroom environment that is collaborative and positive! I jsut simply believe there is a good balnace between the two.
