Before the Journey, there was a Passion...

It began on the first day of kindergarten.  An anxious and confident little girl stormed into the classroom ready to take on the day.  Little did she know she would fall in love with her teacher and the rest would become fate.  It was that simple, really.

You see, my kindergarten teacher was not just any kindergarten teacher.  She made me feel loved.  I looked forward to seeing her every day.  But most importantly, she made learning fun.  She instilled in me something that I believe every student should have the opportunity to experience: a love for learning.  After being in the classroom for just a semester it has become so apparent to me that some children do not get the chance to experience this passion.  Going to school should not become a job for kids but rather a safe place where they can grow.  This should always be a teacher’s goal, that they could establish an environment where students are able to foster learning.

In my classroom, every student will be different but we will build a community based on the fact that we all support each other during a sometimes emotional but mostly rewarding stage in life.  As a teacher my hope will be that my students can look back and say that they felt like they were comfortable to reach to and beyond their potential in my classroom, just like my teacher did for me.  More than anything, this environment should be a safe environment where kids are able to be themselves and really open up.  I believe that this will allow them to grow to their full potential.

The goal of education is not simply just to educate ourselves but as a whole to better ourselves and to grow.  We never really stop learning, so we might as well learn to love it along the way.
