This week's reading were all about Cooperative Discipline and how to establish this in the classroom. When a teacher makes sure that every students needs are met, they are able to have a cooperative classroo. Cooperative Discipline can be established by following the three C's: allowing students to feel capable, helping students connect with each other, and helping them to contribute to the classroom. The second C, helping students connect with each other, stood out to me the most because I believe that a classroom is only as strong as its classroom community. Currently I am placed in a classroom where I do not feel like the students are able to mingle with each other and get to each other. This is something I want to absolutely avoid when I have my own classroom. I think that when classroom community is strong, students feel more comfortable to contribute to class discussion, collaborate and help each other out when needed.

The chapter in Canter and Canter was a little different talking about Assertive discipline. This type of discpline is more of the type of discipline I like to call "old school" and is used by providing a reward when the student is good. When a student is bad the punishment starts out small and increases as bad behavior continues. I see where this is sometimes necessary but I like to use a more positive approach when enforcing discipline. I also like to use intrinstic motivation before constantly referring back to a reward.
