I wonder...

A couple of blog posts ago, I talked about having decided my wondering. Since this blog post, I believe my wondering has shifted as I have gotten to know the needs of my students more. Here is my updated wondering:

How can I help students with IEPs become more engaged in the classroom?

While I have collected a large amount of data in the past couple of weeks, the data that really has lead me to this interest in my wondering would be the observational data I have taken. In the past six weeks I have gotten to really know my students and their needs by simply just observing their behavior and attention span in class. Something that I have noticed during this time is the difference of engagement between the higher level students and the students with IEPs. Ever since I found out that we had so many students with IEPs on our roster I was so excited to work with them so I knew that they would most likely be included in my wondering. Based on their current data I was able to collect their scores are climbing but I think what holds them back in the classroom is their level of engagement. When they are not as engaged as the rest of the class, we cannot as teachers expect them to perform as well as the rest of the class. My goal for this semester and this inquiry project is to work towards making the curriculum and their time in the classroom more interesting and engaging. How can I help students with IEPs become more engaged in the classroom?
