After deciding upon my wondering, I decided to interview our school’s reading resource teachers to get more of an insight into my focus student. To begin the conversation, I asked what they knew about my focus student. I was given some of the information I had discovered this semester through data such as she is on an upper level 28 DRA, and that she is a very bright, autistic student. I was interested to learnt hat she absolutely hates any kind of timer being present during testing due to her anxiety of running out of time. When I later asked my focus student how she felt about being timed she told me that she hated it. After talking to them about ideas of interventions I could work on with my focus student, I walked out of the interview feeling great about implementing these strategies. Since my class is currently reading Charlotte’s Web they gave me the great idea of giving her a graphic organizer to keep her engaged in her own way. Because she is so bright, she tends to get bored very easily. This is one way I can facilitate her learning to avoid the possibility of losing her engagement.
