In One Ear and Out the Other

While he seems distracted most of the time, my focus student is a very bright kid. He really aims to please his teachers and seems as if he desires to do the right thing. Currently I am struggling with him because it seems as if he does not get enough direction at home. While I do everything I can to facilitate his learning in class, that seems to all go out the window after he returns to school the next day. My student really values having fun. As long as we are doing an assignment that allows him to be creaive and hands on we have his full attention. As soon as we read or work on somehting that he feels he already knows, he becomes easily bored.
Something I also find very challenging when it comes to my focus student is the fact that he only works well in a group setting. Often times I try to get to know him better by doing one-on-one assessments but it seems that as soon as I sit him down he shuts down.
